Remembrance for Bob Dockendorff, Long Time DHCA Board Member
Bob Dockendorff, a prominent San Francisco political and social justice activist, philanthropist and former Diamond Heights Community Association president, has passed away peacefully at age 85 after a long battle with COPD on Dec. 9, 2024.
Bob served in the Navy during the Vietnam War and then became a Navy Reservist for 21 years. He actively participated in various community organizations and political campaigns. A lifelong gay activist, he advocated for LGBTQ+ rights, helped organize and lead the national effort to repeal the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell Act of 1993 which was eventually successful in 2010. His commitment to expanding civil rights has had a positive impact on countless lives.
Bob was a proud and longtime homeowner on Amber Drive. He served on the DHCA Board for over 40 years and was president for a decade. Bob took a leadership role in the campaign to keep the Police Academy here in Diamond Heights. He advocated for the needs of the community and worked tirelessly to ensure our neighborhood developed into the beautiful and serene area of San Francisco we enjoy today.
Bob was an amazing DHCA member and an effective leader. We remember him fondly and look forward to supporting and promoting his legacy.
